Facebook 3D Photos: What You Need To Know For Your Business

Facebook New Option to Convert 2D Images to 3D Photos

Facebook has announced a new option that will enable users to convert a 2D photo into 3D thereby enabling better stimulation and appearance of any image. This feature, when properly utilized is a good addition for business owners. As there is no need to have a 3D photo to be able to upload clearer pictures on Facebook.

Speaking on the newly added option, Facebook said,

Our Facebook 3D Photos feature has [thus far] relied on the dual-lens “portrait mode” capabilities available only in new, higher-end smartphones, so it hasn’t been available on typical mobile devices, which have only a single, rear-facing camera. To bring this new visual format to more people, we have used state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to produce 3D photos from virtually any standard 2D picture. This system infers the 3D structure of any image. Whether it is a new shot just taken on an Android or iOS device with a standard single camera, or a decades-old image recently uploaded to a phone or laptop.

Facebook first added the option in 2018. Then include it in Stories last year. They, however, revealed the option was not widely used as it is limited to high-end devices therefore, restricting users with low or middle-range devices. But this new option will eliminate the barrier.

Here’s how to use the new Facebook 3D Photos feature.

  • Update your Facebook app to the newly released version. Then
  • Open the app to upload a photo.
  • Scroll down to ‘what’s on your mind’.
  • Click ‘add to your post’.

Instead of uploading your photo directly, choose 3D photo, then pick the image you wish to upload. Facebook will convert your 2D image to 3D and then you can proceed to upload your photo.

It should be noted that the images are not actual 3D but an imitator. The 3D option can also be used on Facebook pages and groups.
