Twitter has announced the introduction of its own story option. But unlike other social media platforms that named it Stories, twitter calls it ‘Fleet’.
Recall Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and even Snapchat have introduced this feature
Fleet, according to Twitter Product Lead, Kayvon Beykpour will allow users of the platform share thought they are afraid to posts.
With Fleets, there is no option to retweet, like or comment on the post. The only way to respond is to send a Direct Message to the user. Fleet also disappears after 24 hours.
“Fleets are a way to share fleeting thoughts. Unlike Tweets, Fleets disappear after 24 hours and don’t get Retweets, Likes, or public replies– people can only react to your Fleets with DMs. Instead of showing up in people’s timelines, Fleets are viewed by tapping on your avatar” Keyvon said.
How to Create a Fleet
Tap the bubble with + icon and you will be taken to another screen where you can add texts, images, GIFs and videos.
After typing or uploading your image, look down the screen and click ‘Fleet’ and your post will be shared.
How to Check Fleets
Users who are able to use the option will see a rounded profile icon at the top of their Twitter feed. When anyone from your network post a fleet, the post will appear in a round bubble. Proceed to click on the bubble to view the posts. This option is similar to stories on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and so on.
However, the new option is only available for users in Brazil, where twitter will conduct its initial testing.
For brands and digital marketers, Fleet will be another platform and opportunity to showcase products which will hopefully lead to more visibility, engagements and conversions.
